Website accessibility statement

This accessibility statement applies to the London Transport Museum Library catalogue website.

This website is run by London Transport Museum Library and we are committed to making its design inclusive. This statement describes what we have already done to make our website accessible and what we intend to do to improve its accessibility in future.

For example, you should:

  • Be able to navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • Be able to listen to most of the website using a screen reader
  • Understand most of the website text as we’ve made it as simple as possible

How accessible is this website?

We have tried hard to make our website as accessible as possible, but some parts are not yet fully accessible and we are continuing to work on those.

One element technically meets the required standard, but may present difficulties for some people: when using the saved search function as a registered user it may be difficult to navigate the tree layout with a keyboard. It’s not possible to do this with the NVDA screen reader.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

This section covers issues that we need to fix. We are working to resolve these.

There are errors in the source code, which may make it difficult for assistive technologies to interpret the website correctly (WCAG 2.1: 4.1.1). Improvements were made to the source code in April 2023 and will continue to be made on an ongoing basis.

When viewing the copies available in a catalogue record it is not possible to sort the order the copies are displayed in using keyboard only (WCAG 2.1: 2.1.1, 4.1.2). It should be possible to access the header and apply the sort using TAB+Enter keys and improvements were made to this functionality in April 2023.

The publication date icon for filtering search results and the filter by content option in Advanced search are not labelled correctly (WCAG 2.1: 4.1.2), so it may not be possible to control them when using assistive technologies. Improvements were made to this functionality in April 2023.

Disproportionate burden

Not applicable.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

Third party content

Where we include third party content or functionality on our website, we are responsible for ensuring it meets accessibility standards. These are systems that we link to or are embedded into our site. However, we are not responsible for the accessibility of third-party platforms or content that is neither funded nor developed by us, or under our control. We are continually reviewing our use of third-party content and have reported accessibility issues to the relevant suppliers.
