Answer:
- The roundel logo first appeared on Underground station platforms in 1908. The bar and circle, as it was known then, comprised a solid red enamel disc and horizontal blue bar with the station name across the bar. It was designed to stand out from surrounding commercial advertising so that passengers knew what station they were at. In the 1920s Edward Johnston's redesigned bullseye symbol was introduced, along with exact guidelines for its use. The symbol was officially called a roundel from 1972. Over more than 100 years it has become a unifying symbol for all transport services in London and is an icon for the city, recognised around the world.
