  • Lots Road power station in Chelsea provided power to London's underground railway network from 1905-2002. Construction began in 1902 and was completed in December 1904. The power station began operating in February 1905. Lots Road underwent several changes and improvements. In the 1960s it was converted from coal to heavy fuel oil. A subsequent conversion to gas was carried out in 1976. Lots Road power station was shut down on 21 October 2002 after powering the Underground for almost 100 years. Power supply switched to the National Grid.
